Still trying to figure out Where to Start? Here Are Some NEW Side Hustle Ideas

My Side Hustle Story

How did I start a side hustle? Back in 2016, I was at a toxic workplace that didn’t value its employees. We would work overtime and still, our paychecks would be short. I was a 21-year-old renting, and I had my 3-year-old son.

My life was terrifying because I worked in a very stressful and undervalued job where promotion was deemed for friends and links. Not to mention I was well-versed in my position. However, that changed for me as soon as I saw that my mental health was on the line. I was extremely great at sales and customer service so I thought why not use the skills I already have to start a side hustle online?

However, like many people, fear was also in the back of my mind. What if my side hustle fails?  What if I end up broke?  Would this side hustle pay my bills? The questions went on for weeks but my mental health was screaming inside out that I needed to leave, “It’s unfair!”

I had no freedom, no time to take a break, and most importantly no time for my son.

The moment I realized that no toxic 9-5 is worth my mental health, I decided to hand in my resignation letter a few days after turning 22 years old. I was left with 2 weeks’ pay, and a desire to start a side hustle from home but I still had fear of what would go wrong.

Getting Started with Side Hustle

I created my first gig on Fiverr on  January 19th, 2017 then a few days later, I got my first client who worked with me for 4 years. After a year into my side hustle, I was making over $5000 per month with the skills I already had. I was making 4 times more with 100% control of my time compared to my toxic 9-5. I am happy that I bet on myself.

In 2019, I started blogging and making videos about Side hustles. This blog is another medium for me to teach others about getting started with a side hustle, financial tips, and wealth-building hacks.

How to start a side hustle?

First, think of the skills you already have when considering how you can start a side hustle. Research how your skills can be used to help online users and business owners.  This will help you analyze how profitable your side hustle will be.

Afterwards, write down:

  1. The type of services you would be offering
  2. The pricing of the services compared to your skills and the market
  3. What are your vision, and mission statements
  4. And most importantly who you are; your branding

If you’re still at your day job, you may want to consider part-time side hustles you can do while you’re off work. We’ll dive into more about different side hustles that pay daily, or weekly later in this post.

Nevertheless, side hustles that are lucrative will allow you to quit your 9-5 job and build generational wealth. This will also be determined by having the right mindset.

Starting a side hustle is better than waiting for a raise or promotion at your job. Side hustle is work done outside of a regular job that makes extra income. You have the opportunity to become the next millionaire in your family with the right mindset if you don’t give up on pursuing your own business. As you see in my story, I had fear of failure but with desire, dedication and discipline, I turned my side hustle into a business which later provided more opportunities and the freedom I needed.
